William Green, 2021
The best investors can teach us not only how to become rich, but how to improve the way we think.
"Richer, Wiser, Happier" is an insightful and engaging book by William Green that explores the secrets of successful investors. The author has interviewed over forty of the world's top investors over the past twenty-five years and discovered that their skills extend beyond just making money. The author shares these insights in the book, demonstrating how they can be applied to all aspects of life.
"Richer, Wiser, Happier" features fascinating stories and biographies of both well-known and lesser-known investors, and the best fund managers exhibit humility and curiosity. Overall, the book provides a useful perspective on value investing and its impact on personal happiness.
This book is not for people who want practical knowledge about investing, but for those interested in the principles and philosophies that successful investors have followed. It would be most beneficial for people who are interested in adopting long-term habits to improve their lives and invest in their future. If you're interested in establishing a useful mindset for investing, "Richer, Wiser, Happier" is a decent book to start with.
1. Don’t read for advice, read for the stories.
2. The main point of this book is to understand the ways in which some of the best investors think, act and make decisions not only in their careers but also in their life, and how we can copy and apply these in our own life to be richer, happier and wiser.
3. Some people may expect "investment techniques" in this book. No, this book is 99% about mindset.
4. The chapters do get somewhat repetitive as the diversity of the types of investors is limited. Most "value investors" share the same philosophy and thus similar "wisdoms" are re-packaged and repeated from chapter to chapter. The book would have been much improved if investors who specialised in growth, macro, commodities, quant and others were included.
